Two UK volunteers share their
football skills with Gambian youths

A Veteran UK football coach, Syd Wells recently visited The Gambia to train the boys of Sanyang and Manduar in
football skills.
Mr Wells who was staying at the Kingfisher Trust headquarters in Kairaba Avenue focused on training older boys
who will in turn train the younger ones.
New football gear was also given to the teams.
Mr Wells said he plans to leturn next year. He intends CO bring more UEFA coaches co that many more boys can
benefit from the coaching.
He added that he had a wonderful time in The Gambia.
In another development last week Wendy Warwick, an interior designer in the UK came to share her skills with
girls in the President's Award Scheme.
Wendy is a volunteer with the UK based friends of Kingfisher Trust and assists by raising funds for their
work.
She said her aim was to teach the girls different sewing techniques. During lectuics ,trss ek taught
them how to make Roman blinds, tie blinds and Austrian blinds "all of which can be used instead of curtains.
They use less material and look very pretty on the windows."
Wendy also taught them how to make place mats for tables, roll-up tool bags, pot holders and oven gloves.
She said she was very impressed with the speed at which the girls learned these skills. It was a little chaotic
at times, but it was such good fun," she said.
