Kingfisher Trust The Gambia recently organised a 4-day training
camp for youngsters under 7-15 years at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.
Four coaches: Roger Causellcr, Andy. Jesney. Sid Wells and Dean
Cortis from England were invited to facilitate the training sessions. According to the fundraiser of Kingfisher
Trust, Wendy Alder. the main reason for organizing such training was to help in the grassroots development she
noted thnt such training would help to develop the talents of the youngsters.
She added that these coaches are qualified UEFA coaches who
have been involved in youth training back home. "We brought them to share their experience with some of the local
coaches and to help in the development of young talent, she pointed out. Mrs Wendv revealed that one of the coaches
Sid Wells came here last year on a similar progranme with the youths in Manduar.
She added that in the near future they are planning to bring
more coaches.
Sid Wells, one of the coaches, said he was impressed by the
performance of the youngster, adding that they just needed to know how to pass and position themselves. He noted
that they showed the participants different tactics on how to deal with the ball
He said during their visit they \were able to discover Four
good players who could become good players in the future. He lamented that when they come back next year they would
be working with the boys
